More than 60,000 books across 75 different categories will be available for purchase during the 63rd annual Mark Twain Book Fair this Labor Day weekend.
Recognized as one of the oldest, largest and most organized used book sales in New England, the event will be held at the Redding Community Center at 37 Lonetown Road from Friday, Aug. 30, to Monday, Sept. 2.
In addition to hardcover and paperback books, the sale also includes games, CDs and DVDs.
The book fair will run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, and Monday, Sept. 2, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1.
Books will be sold for the prices as marked on the first two days of the sale, and for half price on the third day of the sale. Customers can buy a box full of books for $10 on the fourth day of the sale.
Admission is free, though there will be a $20 early admission charge from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, only.
The book fair offers a special Collector’s Corner that is filled with rare and beautiful editions.
There will be free parking, and refreshments will be available for purchase.
Proceeds benefit the Mark Twain Library in Redding, which was founded by American author Samuel Clemens, best known as Mark Twain. He lived in town on his estate, called Stormfield, from June 1908 until his death on April 21, 1910.
The original building in the now expanded library serves as its meeting room and houses 200 books that Twain donated to the library.
